The wheel determines the winning number. The betting layout determines which numbers your wager covers. The wheel’s pocket order is different from the grid’s number order.
The numbered wheelhead turns inside the stationary bowl. The ball comes to rest in one pocket, giving everyone the same winning number.

Zero is neither red nor black. It is excluded from ordinary Odd/Even, Dozen, Column and High/Low bets. A straight-up bet placed on zero wins at 35:1.
The 5-unit stake is lost.
Some French tables offer La Partage or En Prison on Red/Black, Odd/Even and Low/High bets. On zero, La Partage returns half the stake; En Prison holds it for a later spin. Check the table’s rules before betting.

Know the wheel, the rules and your limits before betting opens.
European roulette has one zero and 37 pockets. American roulette adds 00 for 38. Confirm whether zero loses the full stake on even-money bets or whether La Partage or En Prison applies.
Check the minimum, maximum and any separate limits for individual bets. Chip denominations vary. At a physical table, confirm the value of your chips with the dealer.
Place or change chips while betting is open. After “no more bets”, leave them where they are. Live online games have a betting window; RNG games can use a different start procedure.
A 35:1 payout means 35 units of profit plus the original unit returned: 36 units in total. Standard losing bets return nothing.
Spins on an ideal fair wheel are independent. A run of red does not make black more likely on the next spin.
If you play for real money, choose an entertainment budget you can afford to lose. Stop at your spending and time limits. Raising your stake does not make the next result more favourable.
Standard European bets share a 2.70% house edge: an expected loss of about 2.70 units per 100 wagered over the long run. Covering more numbers raises the chance of winning and lowers the payout. Short sessions can differ greatly.
